The Tree climbing lions of Ishasha

The tree-climbing lions of Uganda are found in Queen Elizabeth National Park in the southern Ishasha region and a must-see for wildlife seekers. The lions are often seen lounging in groups on the broad branches of fig or acacia trees, offering a perfect vantage point for observation. While the tree-climbing lions are a key attraction, Ishasha is also home to elephants, leopards and buffalos

Murchison Falls

Jinja at Lake Victoria is considered the source of the Nile. Meandering its way north, the Nile then squeezes through a narrow gorge, creating a powerful waterfall plunging 43 meters into a thunderous cascade. The Murchison Falls, located in Murchison Falls National Park, is one of Uganda’s most iconic natural wonders and considered the world’s most powerful waterfall.

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s most popular safari destination, located in the western part of the country. It is renowned for its vast savannahs, lush wetlands, and the dramatic backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains. The park is home to a wide array of wildlife, including elephants, lions, and leopards. A key highlight is the Ishasha sector, famous for its unique tree-climbing lions.

The Rwenzori Mountains

Known as the “Mountains of the Moon,” The Rwenzori Mountains offer challenging hikes and breathtaking views in western Uganda, straddling the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Despite being near the equator, the Rwenzoris are one of the few places in Africa with glaciers and permanent snowcaps offering scenic trekking routes for all levels, including challenging multi-day climbs.

Mountain Gorillas

Mountain gorillas are Uganda’s most iconic wildlife treasures. Most of the gorilla families are found in the  Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site home to about half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Others are found at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park located in the Virunga Mountain Range, which is equally magical, when observing them on gorilla trekking tours.

Mount Elgon & the Sipi Falls

Mount Elgon is an extinct shield volcano and one of East Africa’s most iconic mountains. The region offers great hiking, ranging from one-day treks to multi-day adventures passing through distinct vegetation zones – forests, bamboo and moorlands. Nearby Sipi Falls plunge about 100 meters offering serene views. The three waterfalls are connected by picturesque trails through coffee plantations.
