Arrival in Lima

Day 1

Lima is a fascinating metropole. Located right on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, Peru’s buzzing capital combines the modern with the traditional, the simple with the luxurious. Have a stroll to stretch your legs, check out the many galleries, cafes and restaurants in the area, some of which are voted the best in the world. In fact, Peru has been named the world's best culinary destination every year since 2011.

Day 2: Lima culinary tour

Your first full day in Peru! In the morning you will be picked up for your Lima culinary experience. Learning about how Lima became the top culinary destination in the world, you will get to have a go at Peru's national dish and drink - Ceviche and Pisco Sour. The ingredients, the preparation and the cooking are simply out of this world. Tasting some of Peru's culinary highlights is a must when visiting Lima.

Flight to Cuzco

Day 3

Today you will fly to the UNESCO heritage city of Cuzco, which boasts an interesting mix of pre-Columbian and colonial architecture. The ancient Inca capital is the starting point for all treks into the Sacred Valley, the Andes and to Machu Picchu. Cuzco lies at 3400m above sea level and it is important to acclimatise properly the first couple of days. Spend the afternoon at your leisure and explore some of the city's narrow streets and cafes.

Day 4: Andean Astronomy

Start the day with a sun salutation practice. Today we dedicate our time learning about Incan astronomy. Visiting the temples of Sacsayhuaman and Koricancha, we explore how the Incan architecture was built with the constellations of the sun, moon and the stars in mind. The afternoon is spent at the Cuzco Planetarium to learn more about Andean Astronomy.

Maras y Moray

Day 5

Today you will head to the Sacred Valley. You will first visit the Maras salt pans, a fascinating system of platforms used since the Incan times to extract salt from a mountain spring. Your next stop are the agricultural terraces of Moray, which create a variety of micro-climates, for the Incas to determine the optimal crop growing conditions. Experience a traditional Pachamanca lunch prepared in an "earth oven" cooked under hot rocks followed by a visit to a Cañazo distillery.

Day 6: Ancascocha Trek

The 3-day Ancascocha trek is our favourite alternative to the saturated Inca Trail, passing ancient Inca ruins and traditional Andean communities on the way. The trek starts in Limatambo, close to the Salkantay snow-capped peak. You will cross two mountain passes and high plateaus, offering spectacular views of glacial lakes, Salkantay and the Huayanay range.

The spacious tents, therma rest sleeping pads and warm sleeping bags ensure a good night's sleep. The final village we reach on the trek is Chillca, where we will spend another night camping.

Day 8: KM 104 hike

In the early morning we will board a train taking us to KM 104, the starting point of the final hike to Machu Picchu. There we start hiking the last part of the original Inca Trail, taking us all the way to the Sun Gate, our entrance point to the ancient Inca citadel Machu Picchu. The first glimpse of this magical site immersed in the soft afternoon light is a very special moment.

In the afternoon, we are taking the train back to the Sacred Valley and enjoy the view through the train's panoramic windows! Arriving at the Wilka Tika Retreat it's finally time to rest. Take some time to reflect on the last few days before settling into the soft linen of your comfy bed.

The ceremony involves making an offering of a small amount of native Andean cereals, grains and fruits, together with coca leafs. It is believed that the ceremony is invoking the Apus, spirits of the sacred mountains and the four elements. In the afternoon we will be transferred back to Cuzco.

Day 12: PeruRail

The Cusco-Puno route covered by the PeruRail Titicaca luxury train is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the world. Sit back and wind your way through Peru's vast magnificent plains. The 1920's-style carriages were designed to provide passengers with all the luxuries - an open-air observation car, gourmet food and afternoon tea- while taking in breathtaking landscapes.

Day 13 - Morning

Lake Titicaca is the center of the earth's sacral chakra, connected to creation and creativity. The world's highest navigable lake is home to unique indigenous cultures. One of these mysterious structures is the Aramu Muru, an off the beaten path Incan structure thought to be a multi dimensional gateway.

Day 13: Llachon Community

From Aramu Muru we will be transferred to the Llachon peninsula. This visit is a rural community-based tourism experience led by the people of Llachon.
